In the late 90's, I worked as a respite care provider for a few families with children who had genetic disorders, seizures resulting in loss of self feeding skills, speech, ability to crawl. I joined families in PT and OT visits and outings. I worked alongside the children in sensory play and cared for the children while parents were away from home. For the past 15 years I have worked with elementary aged students, primarily with autism, physical limitations, Down Syndrome, intellectual disabilities in a classroom setting. Currently I am in my 5th year at the middle school level working with students in the Functional Skills program. Subjects include letter recognition, cooking, working with money, life skills and helping them become successful and responsible within our community.
