Hi I am Raisha! I have yet to meet a student who wants or needs anything more elaborate. The best way to make students think you're competent is to be competent. If these students are also enrolled in a course and have a textbook, try to become familiar with the textbook before you meet the students. I will be sure to look at the material in the appendices. It often has information that would be very helpful if students knew about it. I will understand what the student's aims are in learning English and that the student understands how the tutoring furthers the student's goals.
