I attempted to hire Miss Pinnie for a two-day-a-week caregiving job on Tuesdays and Fridays. She was very cordial and had a great interview. The day before her first shift, Miss Pinnie contacted me to confirm her workday and ask if it was acceptable for her to wear scrubs. However, on the morning of her first day, she texted me one minute before her scheduled arrival time to inform me she would be at least 15 minutes late, possibly longer. Unfortunately, as a high quadriplegic, this lack of punctuality is not workable for me, and I imagine it would be similarly problematic for others. While I completely understand that life happens and everyone encounters unexpected circumstances, not calling as soon as she knew she wouldn’t be on time and essentially no-showing for her first day are behaviors that potential employers should be aware of.
