My philosophy on teaching is that effective math educators teach more than just how to solve math problems - they teach problem solving skills that can be used in and out of the classroom. I have worked as a classroom and Title 1 Math Teacher who essentially tutors Title 1 eligible students who need additional math support. My skills include - 1. determining my students' strengths and weaknesses - I need to know what areas to focus on by knowing where the gaps are so that we can fill those gaps. 2. being personable, genuine, and friendly - I strive to build rapport by developing a connection built on trust and care. 3. knowledge of math - I don't just teach "how" to solve a problem. I teach "why" you do each of the steps. Learning happens when a student understands why they perform a certain step, not just how to do it.
