Peyton applied to a job posting we made that was clear on the rate, hours needed, and tasks. When she applied, I messaged AND spoke to her on a call to reiterate those things. I explained the rate was because there was no cooking/cleaning involved and since it was only for 2hrs a couple times a week, it just entailed keeping out daughter playing. She confirmed several times. After that call, we decided to do a test run with her & 2 other candidates and liked her very much. Unfortunately, once we decided to go with her and before the second time we meet with her, she let us know that she wasn’t happy with the number of hours. I apologized and said it was all we needed from the beginning but she was welcome to keep the hours we had until she found a better opportunity (and only if she wanted). She said that was good and sat for us another time. Then the same afternoon she was supposed to come back again (less than 3hrs before she was supposed to show up), she said she was raising her rate by $4. I explained again that the job posting that she applied for and was hired for was a simple 2hr job to keep my daughter distracted with no cooking, no cleaning and really no diapers (since I’m home while she’s here, I did the diaper when she needed it). My 17m old is not a difficult child & listens well but just has high energy and wants you to play with her. It’s literally just that, play with a toddler for 2hrs. What disappointed me was that she responded to a job post that was clear. She read the messages through the app that were clear. And she spoke to me on the phone. Nothing was a surprise and yet she agreed to it. I explained all of that politely and emphasized that all of this was clear in the job she applied for. I did say that if that wasn’t something she could do, I understood but it was a little late for cancelling. I asked her to let me know as soon as she could if she would not be showing up. Nothing. I asked her again less than an hour before she was expected. Nothing. She never texted or called again which I felt was very unprofessional. I understand not being a good fit but we offered her the job that SHE applied to. And if she changed her mind along the way, that’s ok too but it would have shown professionalism & maturity to discuss all of that with time and to not ghost a family that made arrangements and plans around your commitment to complete a job.
