I had the privilege and career satisfying honor to serve a wonderful elderly married couple for the past two and a half years. It was the husband that had multiple medical issues, one of which was Dementia. He also had Type 2 Diabetes and I administered his insulin and his other meds did his AM care, meal prep, exercises as per his PT,& doctors visits. In his last days, I gave Hospice Care under the direction of the medical team & still visit his widow. My other experiences in caring for a patient with Dementia includes; working full time with a CNA in covering for the care of a relative of mine, which lasted 5years. I also covered for a caregiver occasionally, who was working full time with a woman that had Alzheimer' for about 6 months. The duties I perform are the usual; assisting in morning care, light meal preparation & clean up, laundry, shopping, errands, doctors visits, overseeing the taking of meds, assisting when necessary, companionship. anything not listed, we can discuss.
