I have worked in many settings for those who are mentally and/or physically disabled. I have worked in the school system as a one on one aide for children with a wide range of disabilities, but primarily those with autism. During my three years there I worked hand in hand with special education teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, floor time specialists and physical therapists in order to implement their plans and meet the goals that were set in each child's legally binding IEP. I have also worked at a center that specializes in both land based and aquatic based therapy for those with a wide range of disabilities. During my 3 years at this facility I implemented and help design workout and rehabilitation regimens for those who had spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and for those who had suffered strokes and traumatic brain injuries. Lastly, I have worked as a behavioral respite aide for two years. During this job my focus shifted from the school setting in to the public and home setting. Here I was very successful in helping children integrate into the social world and adapt and learn coping mechanisms for entering in to new public settings. I just recently obtained my personal training certification. This service includes an evaluation and assessment of the individuals range of motion, muscular strength and muscular endurance and cardiovascular fitness and a 2-3 day a week exercise plan catered to the individual's specific needs.
