My first actual experience being a minder of children was when I was in elementary school. I was chosen to be paired with a nonverbal boy on the autism spectrum for the entirety of 4th grade. It was my responsibility to make sure this boy had his lunch with no fuss, and was able to enjoy recess with his peers. It was then that I learned the importance of regulating a person's needs, physical, mental, and emotional, regardless of ability or age. I do have a soft spot for special needs individuals and appreciate when I can be a shining light to someone's life. I enjoy making people feel seen and heard. I love when I am reciprocated in the joy I try to contribute to the world.
