I have had both the honor and pleasure of knowing Patricia (Patty) for 16 years. We met as our children were both in Kindergarten. After a brief introduction on the first day of school, Patty called me to say "Hello, neighbor." In just that first conversation, Patty extended herself as my son's emergency contact, as she knew I was fairly new to town, and my family lived far away. From that moment on, I knew I had an incredibly reliable friend in Patty. As time moved along and our trust and friendship grew, my husband and I decided to ask both Patty and her husband to be legal guardians to our only child. Please know that we discussed this with our son, and he was quite comfortable with the thought of being handed over to Patty should something happen to us. Our son is so treasured in our hearts and finding the perfect guardian seemed impossible. But we knew that Patty not only loved him like a son, but she had his best interest at heart and would do all things necessary to make sure his life proceeded as we would want it to. I cannot imagine a better reference than this. Just yesterday, I was talking to my son, who is now 20 years old, and I told him about Patty working as an elder care companion. Without hesitation, his words were the following: "Perfect. Just Perfect for her. I can't imagine anyone more perfect for that job. She is reliable, gets the job done, advocates well, and most importantly is so jolly and spunky. She makes everyday feel like Christmas. She is what older people need to feel better." I so agree with my son's words and believe Patty would be totally awesome as one to care for the elderly. She did a fantastic job with her own Mom!!!
