This is the background check we require for all caregivers.
Experience: 2 yrs
After my grandfather had a heart attack I started providing 24/7 care for him until he passed away two years later. I know the struggles that can come with the job but the work is meaningful to me. I'd like to be of service to someone in need. I enjoy listening to stories, making their favorite meal, and helping in anyway I can.

My family hired Pamela to help care for my 79-year-old mother who was diagnosed with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. Pamela was one of the only people on the Care.com website who actually responded to my message. She was prompt in her responses and eager to meet my family to discuss my mother's care needs. Pamela has always been on time and communicated effectively with each of my four siblings. She connected with my mother immediately and felt like family. She came engaged with my mother and made her feel comfortable and at ease. Pamela worked to get my mother involved in household activities so she felt like she had a purpose and could contribute. She asked my mother how she felt about certain things and always tried to take her feelings into consideration. She encouraged my mother to do things for independence, but also recognized when she needed supervision and help. Pamela was in constant contact with the children and kept us in the loop with her observations of my mother. She made really helpful suggestions on how to better my mother's day-to-day life based upon her experience working with clients with dementia. When my mother napped, she cleaned and organized the house, despite not being asked to do so. My father could take a much needed break from his caregiver role when Pamela was around. She took my mother on outings to the library, salon, shopping, etc. and almost stepped into the role of daughter, which was great! Pamela made an effort to get to know the rest of our family and even stopped by the house when the children and grandchildren were in town, just so we could get to know her. I couldn't speak more highly of Pamela and the care she provided my mother. She went so far above and beyond anything we could have asked for in a care provider. We are very grateful and feel as though she is now a member of our family after just a few short weeks of knowing her. The only reason we could no longer employ Pamela is because our mother went into a care facility. Even then, Pamela stopped by on her own time to check in and see how my Mom was doing. She is incredible and we are eternally grateful to her.
