We hired Paige after a thorough interview and mutual agreement that she was the right fit for our family. To ensure she felt comfortable, we even paid her to shadow our current nanny for two days, as we have twin boys with autism and wanted to make the transition smooth. After shadowing, we didn’t hear from Paige for a few days. We had to reach out 1 business day before she was supposed to start, only to learn she had accepted another nannying position without informing us. This was incredibly disheartening, as we were left scrambling for childcare. A week later, Paige contacted us again, saying her other job fell through and she wanted to come back. Despite our hesitation, we gave her a second chance based on her experience with special needs children and the urgent need for childcare so my husband could return to work. Paige worked for one week of training while my husband was still home, with the plan for her to take over solo the following week. At the end of the week, we paid her for New Year’s Day off and even for the days she came late or left early, as a gesture of goodwill. We expressed our appreciation for her efforts. To our shock, Paige quit on the spot, saying her heart wasn’t in nannying anymore and she wanted to pursue a job at Costco. This left us completely high and dry. Her actions cost us significant money in unnecessary childcare expenses (since she was never alone with our kids) and ultimately cost my husband his job as his current employer was unable to extend his leave any longer. Paige’s behavior was immature and unprofessional, and I would strongly discourage anyone from hiring her. She proved to be unreliable and lacked the integrity we needed in a caregiver.
