I live in Monterey, but I've spent the last 2 1/2 years going to San Diego to help take care of my niece who has cancer. I come down to be with her while she is having chemo and also to stay with her afterwards. Although I have no nursing experience, I'm good at just offering support to her while she goes through treatment. I try to make her as comfortable as possible. It made me think that there must be other families that need somebody to be a companion to a loved one while they're going through cancer treatment. In a lot of cases, the primary caregiver has to work or simply just needs relief. I would be available to go to treatments and to keep the patient company when at home.
