I first started caring for those with special needs when I became a Certified Nursing Assistant working in a behavioral rehabilitation center. It was here that I experienced what it was like to take care of a range of different special needs; from schizophrenia, drug addiction, speech impediments, to paralysis and other disabilities. While I was working, I noticed that all these people needed was someone who TRULY was a friend to them, not just a caretaker. It was saddening to see how some were treated like they weren't even people at all. Which is why I decided to care for others independently on Care. com, they way I saw fit. With compassion, empathy, and a little bit of fun. From then on, I continued helping young children, teenagers, and adults. Giving each person and family member the love and reassurance they need to just feel like a regular human being again.
