About Monteyla

This letter comes to you as a recommendation for Monteyla. Monteyla was a student in my Child Development 2 class during the 2013 - 2014 school year. This course provided an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge of child development as they worked on a collaborative project with a second grade class. The students helped the second graders create a monthly class newspaper, which promoted children's literacy, used critical thinking skills as the students designed and edited their work, required the use of technology tools to produce the newspaper, and offered my students the opportunity to practice mentoring and teaching children. Monteyla completed my Introduction to Early Childhood Education class in 2012 - 2013. This course prepared Monteyla for working with children as it included practical experience observing and interacting with preschoolers at an assigned site. Monteyla was an active participant in class, she worked cooperatively with class members on group projects, and she was a positive role model for her young 'newspaper buddies'. In addition to practicing workplace skills through hands-on interaction with children, Monteyla participated in class-related service projects which benefited children. She was involved in collecting and sorting age appropriate toys for an organization, she helped raise funds for another by participating in a Valentine cake pop sale, and she was involved with our mom's morning out project for several years. Monteyla was a pleasure to have in my classes, and I believe the internship experiences and service projects provided her with a strong foundation as a positive role model and child care provider.
