I love seniors because they have candid and intriguing personalities. Still, it wasn't until I started caring for my grandma, now almost 82, that I got to see for myself what caring for a senior really entails. It's more than safety, meds, doctor visits, meal prep, dishes, laundry, and reminding her of things that slipped her mind. It's also listening to and advocating for her so that she is comfortable being herself around me. Seniors see themselves as independent and grown. They may not be able to do things as they used to (or sometimes as they'd like to). However, they still have good wits and preferences that mean something dear to them. For these reasons, as a helper and companionao treat them... Respectfully and lovingly.
