When I was 18 I got my first job in direct care at a group home for people with complex medical needs. I was working an overnight shift when I went to check on one of the residents I had a feeling something was wrong with her. I turned on her light and saw her entire pillow was soaked with sweat. I opened her covers and everything in her bed was soaked in sweat. I remembered my training and told the other staff to go get the glucose reader as she was a type 2 diabetic. The client was not responding but was breathing. I check her blood sugar it is in the 30s. I grab her glucose tube and squeeze it into her mouth. I saved that ladies life that day. This was my first job in direct care.
