I have enjoyed being around seniors all of my life. As a child, my mom would take me to the nursing homes where she worked and I would visit and help the seniors, as mom worked. As I got older, I would take my kids to the senior home to trick or treat and do other activities. A few years ago, I worked with local assisted living apartments, where I organized and arranged to provide devotion, snack and craft days. I would also plan and organize holiday celebrations. I love listening to the stories that seniors tell, they have so much wisdom. I have recently worked a live-in position and my responsibilities were distributing drugs throughout the day and maintaining pill boxes, also manage diabetes insulin shots. I was in charge of maintaining and recording sugar levels and blood pressure levels and a monthly calendar of appointments I prepared for visiting nurse appointments and therapy visits. I would also accompany the patient to doctor appointments to keep them informed of the progress and bring up any problems that had arisen. I was responsible for meal planning and preparing for a low salt, no potassium, and diabetic diet. Also cared for an incontinent patient, I took care of all restroom, briefs, and bathing needs. I assisted in physical movement; walking with a walker, in and out of bed, daily physical therapy for upper and lower body, and wheelchair needs. I did all housekeeping duties and daily laundry. I have done clinicals for a 8 weeks in a popular nursing home setting. I worked with many residents. I have experience with people with many stages of dementia, and mobility problems. I have used a Hoyer lift, sit to stand lift, and assisted with all personal care needs. In at-home care hospice I have had experience with thicken liquid diet due to swallowing problems. I also have experience feeding meals of all types. I have the experience of communicating non-verbally and verbally. I also have had experience of seizures, and even death. I have maintained stomach care and fed through a G-tube. I believe people deserve to have the best day possible, there is nothing better than a smile. People deserve respect and honor no matter what they are going though with their health. I love what I do!
