About Michelle

I am a retired teacher of preschool and 4th grade. I also have over 30 years of tutoring experience, including elementary, middle school, high school & college students and adults. I currently volunteer at an after school program for disadvantaged children and tutor students at my local elementary school for several hours each week. I specialize in math and writing but am qualified and competent to teach all academic subjects. My teaching style focuses on facilitating self learning and critical thinking skills. I encourage students to learn not just how to solve problems, but to understand the concepts behind them. This builds independence and confidence. My demeanor is calm, patient and enthusiastic. I build on students' strengths and interests and make learning engaging and fun. I truly believe all children can learn and succeed given the right circumstances and support. As a dedicated and highly experienced tutor I am happy to provide some of that support.
