I learned how much I like caring for seniors after caring for my father and 2 grandmas. It feels a bit selfish, but I feel I receive more than I give!! I've found they are so appreciative of any assistance given. These relationships are some of the most fulfilling for myself and the senior!! I'm looking for a job that is fulfilling, not just an income. I want a job that benefits others and gives me a sense of purpose. I started caring for seniors about 8 yrs ago for my grandma who lived to 99 years old! I assisted with meals, running errands, light house work, toileting, bathing, and even giving her perms!! Since then, I helped care for both my father and other grandma for short periods of time and assist my mother at times as well. In my spare time, I like to do crafts and "putter" about the house with domestic activities. My skills include treating the elder as adults and honoring their dignity; encouraging independence in whatever way I can; and patience to go at their pace.
