My childcare philosophy can be summed up with what I can say "yes" to. For example, I'm not going to let a child stay up way past her bedtime, but I might be able to say yes to reading one more book. Embracing creativity within structure helps me connect with each child. As an insatiably curious and creative person, I have always loved working with children. My first job was at a summer camp for children with ADHD, Bipolar and Aspergers. I was a counselor in training and loved every minute of it. This work spoke to me because I have ADHD and Dyslexia, which means I have a lot of experience and empathy with these challenges. I bring that experience to my work with kids. An example of what this looks like in action is if a child is struggling to focus on their homework, I might suggest setting a 15-minute timer and telling the child, "let's see how far you get," then taking a break.
