People with special needs are truly amazing. I believe they are all capable of accomplishing so much. I love helping them achieve great heights! I currently work through Helper's Inc. every Thursday. I care for a child with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their own home while their parents are at work. I assist this child with activities of daily life, such as eating through a gastronomy tube, showering, dressing, and walking. I volunteered for about a year with the Down Syndrome Guild of Kansas City. There, I helped with weekly events for teens that have Down syndrome. I helped the DSG teach the kids valuable professional skills to prepare them for jobs after high school, while building their social, educational, and emotional confidence. I currently am active in Best Buddies at KU, a non-profit organization for people with special needs. I have been involved in this organization since 2014, where I helped open a chapter at my high school in Texas.
