Matina was my mother’s caregiver and companion for several years, and I truly cannot speak highly enough of her. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and, as anyone familiar with the condition knows, it can come with moments of confusion, frustration, and emotional unpredictability. Matina handled it all with extraordinary patience, grace, and emotional intelligence. My mother is also incredibly particular and not easily impressed, but Matina quickly won her over with her warmth, wit, and natural ease around the elderly. She has a rare combination of professionalism and deep humanity. She is classy, funny, intelligent, and genuinely kind. She didn’t just assist with daily routines. She enriched my mother’s life. They would go on outings together, shopping, enjoying meals, or strolling through the gardens. My mom came to absolutely adore her, and it was clear the feeling was mutual. Matina was especially skilled at de-escalating difficult moments and gently redirecting my mother when needed, always with compassion and without diminishing her dignity. She brought real joy and peace of mind to both of us. What really set Matina apart was how often she went above and beyond. She would suggest activities she knew my mom would enjoy, sometimes even offering to take her to concerts or events outside of her scheduled hours simply because she cared. As a particularly thoughtful example, my mother is Korean, and Matina would occasionally take her to the Korean bathhouse, knowing how much she enjoyed and connected with that experience. That kind of cultural sensitivity and personal attention is incredibly rare. Matina is a true gem. Anyone fortunate enough to have her in their orbit, especially in a caregiving role, will quickly understand just how exceptional she is.
