This is the background check we require for all caregivers.
Experience: 10 yrs
I have 16 years of experience caring for seniors & experience with many medical conditions. I've been trained by nurses & physical & occupational therapists on the proper, safe ways to provide assistance in walking, dressing, bathing, feeding, getting in/out of chairs, cars, the shower, etc. I'm very attuned to safety issues such as loss of balance, tripping hazards, slipping in the shower, etc. I understand the common issues seniors often face such as lack of movement, need for mental/social stimulation, fear of falling, dehydration, hearing & sight problems. I enjoy providing companionship to my clients. I have a positive, upbeat, can-do attitude, a good sense of humor & lots of patience. I am very organized & very detail-oriented. My goals are to help seniors live as full a life as they desire & to seamlessly fit into the client's & family's routines, doing whatever is needed to make their lives easier & less stressed. I seek to do things the way the client likes & wants them done!

I hired Mary to help my father a few days a week right before Covid 19 hit and forced All adult day cares to shut down. Once the day cares shut down dad needed much more companionship and help. Thank God Mary was available to work more hours. For about 15 months Mary and our other aide were able to keep my father clean, engaged, entertained and exercised. We recently had to place my dad in a VA nursing home due to his growing needs. The visiting rules for the VA homes are much stricter than regular NY state nursing homes and only allow one 30 minute visit a week now. We had hoped could keep Mary employed even when dad was at the nursing home as his companion and to take him out of there for car rides also but the rules don't allow for that now. Mary is an extremely hard worker and treated my father as an equal. My dad has dementia but Mary was always respectful and kind to him and encouraging to him.
