I have worked with children in various capacities for 15 years and am particularly drawn to those families dealing with special needs. Aside from that particular passion, working with children in general is rewarding no matter what the circumstances are. I enjoy taking the time to get to know them and what makes them unique as well as being able to role model for them and turn almost any moment into a learning experience. My temperament is very calm and patient, and I try to lead by example. Children know what I expect of them because I demand it of myself first so they will have a role model to follow rather than someone who expects blind obedience. I very rarely find it necessary to raise my voice and have found that children will tune me in better if I communicate in a way that keeps their dignity intact.
