About Mary

Hi! I am a Chemistry sophomore at American University who absolutely adores Chemistry and science. As a High-schooler, I volunteered at my middle school to help make science fun through STEM fairs and activities. In class, I was also known for being quite the mnemonic and jingle creator for any complex matter. I volunteer as a research assistant at American University studying a chitosan-based, natural wood flame retardant coating and I was an associate summer researcher studying the degradation of nuclear power plant cables at NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. I think science has earned a very daunting reputation. However, in reality, science is incredibly fun and rewarding! I know what it's like to be frustrated and stuck in a topic, which means I also know the rewarding feeling of finally cracking it. I want to devote great time and attention to ensuring that other students may attain this same amazing feeling!
