My mother passed away suddenly a year after my father had a stroke. I moved in with my father and was his 24/7 caregiver for four years. My mother had told me the doctor gave my dad 2 years life expectancy after his stroke. She didn't tell him and I of course never told him, and so we had 4 years together rather than the predicted one more year. I did everything for him: From help into and during the shower, to help dressing, eating, walking, etc. I did all his housekeeping and meal preparation. I did all his errands, i. e. picking up prescriptions and groceries. I took care of his two pets, one dog and one cat. I took him to doctor appointments.
