I am the mother of a 25-year-old son who has Asperger's. I spent the better part of 20+ years taking my son to specialists, therapies, and social skills groups to help integrate him into society. In May 2017 I graduated with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Social Services. I also am currently employed by a public school system as an Administrative Assistant, so I spend a large amount of my days surrounded by children. I am also currently working as a part time respite care worker for a young man with autism. Some of the activities we enjoy are outings to the park, local stores, community pool, and local theater. While enjoying our activities I am reinforcing skills for everyday living, i. e. going to a store to make a purchase, using utensils to cut and eat food, ordering off a menu, etc. I have much more experience which I would love to share with you.
