About Martha

Martha was a real blessing and true Godsend in helping to care for my dad during his last year of life. My dad really didn’t like the idea of anyone looking after him except immediate family. So it was very difficult to find someone who did their job well, someone I could trust, and someone from whom my dad would actually accept care. As it turned out, Martha happened to show up at just the right time - when I was quite literally at my wits’ end with my dad’s resistance to the parade of other caregivers who had come through the door. I was seriously at the point of needing to consider the possibility of resigning my dad to a care facility instead of allowing him to remain at home. It’s no exaggeration to say that we must have gone through some 30+ previous caregivers, from at least two different agencies, over the course of some three years of increased in-home care, before coming across Martha. Since my dad could be difficult at times, it was hard to find someone with just the right temperament and attitude to handle caring for him - and Martha proved to be a diamond-in-the-rough! In a situation where other caregivers might get frustrated and lose their patience, Martha would remain calm and display a sweet spirit, as she gently and respectfully cared for my dad. She proved to be very observant and attentive in meeting his hour-by-hour needs. When Martha was watching my dad, I could actually sleep through the night - which was not always the case with other caregivers during a night shift. I believe my dad was aware, and sensed that Martha respected his dignity, and that she never talked down to him. Instead, she showed empathy for the difficulties he was experiencing in his old age, as his health was declining and his body starting to fail. Even with increasing memory issues and a lack of general day-to-day awareness, my dad (who was of the WW2 generation), still showed awareness of the character of the person in the room trying to care for him. When it comes to the success of caring for a loved one in their own home, I think the character and personality of the caregiver makes all the difference in the world. Martha is truly a woman of character, whom I’m more than happy to recommend with this review. So please don’t hesitate to invite Martha into the home of the person care about, as I’m sure you will find her to be a blessing to both you and your family member, as I did. p.s. Just a few weeks ago, I recommended Martha to a woman at church who needed care for her aging mom. I had no doubts that Martha would do well, and I was right - as sure enough, the woman let me know how happy she was with Martha in the home!
