I've been a professional nanny for the past 8 years, having worked with 10 families in households ranging from infants to elementary age children, singles and multiples up to three kiddos! My approach to childcare is an amalgamation of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy, Montessori learning/living principles and gentle/respectful parenting as a guideline for all communication and engagement. I believe that all kids learn best from a child-focused approach where their interests, hands-on experience and outdoor exploration are prioritized. I understand that children have a strong desire to be independent and participate in real-world activities that encourage physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. But above all, I maintain that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and bodily autonomy, while still adhering to strict boundaries that prioritize the safety and happiness of themselves AND others. We had the honor to have Marina be our "nanny" or childcare provider for nearly a year yet, our littlest one starts preschool soon. She helped with our kids for approximately 15-20 hours a week. Predominately with our now two-year-old, but also at times with our 4 and 7-year-olds as well. Marina really got to know our kids, supporting their interests and development. She was able to watch, have fun and be safe with one, two or three of our very energetic and full of personality kids. She regularly took our little one on educational outings and supported his social interaction. We are sad to transition with Marina to only have her as our once in a while sitter and not regularly in our lives. You are lucky to have her care for your kids.
