Recommendation for Marietta: Marietta was the Care-Giver for my wife, serving for more than 3 years from April 2021 until my wife passed away in June 2024 due to Lewy Body Dementia. Marietta's care-giving skills were a comfort to my wife, helping us to keep her in the familiar surroundings of our own home as she gradually lost her voice, muscle control and memory. Marietta worked in our home 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. She prepared my wife's meals and snacks; administered her medications;brushed her teeth; bathed and showered her; helped her with toileting and the frequent undergarment changes and personal clean-up due to her incontinence; helped with her skin-care and trimmed her hair and nails; dressed her; did her laundry and kept her bed clean and made-up. She assisted my wife in moving around the house, using the chair-lift on the stairs and in taking walks outside. Early on Marietta helped prevent my wife from wandering away from the house. Marietta provided health information to the Nurse Practitioner who visited our home each month to monitor my wife's health, including providing information on her tolerance for and response to various medications. Marietta accompanied us on regular visits to the dentist, a visit for dental surgery with sedation and a visit to Inova Hospital's Emergency Room that lasted well into the night. Marietta's assistance and care for my wife on these occasions was invaluable. Marietta was always patient and cheerful with my wife and vigilant to her needs and temperament. They became close, forming a bond. Some days Marietta would show my wife pictures or read to her or they would sit together watching the birds on our deck. Marietta also showed the ability to enlist my wife in cooperating in her own care, as best could be expected--a valuable skill when caring for dementia patients. Marietta kept me informed of changes she noted in my wife's condition as well as when medications and supplies needed to be refilled. She also kept me informed, well in advance, of dates when she would not be able to work so that I could make arrangements for a substitute. Marietta showed that she was a self-starter; she performed her care-giving duties cheerfully and with initiative, attention to detail and a positive, can-do attitude. When Marietta was on duty, I was confident my wife was in excellent care. I'm pleased to recommend Marietta for her care-giving skills, ability to work with her patient and devotion to duty.
