Initially, this caregiver started off very good. My daughter loved her. However, after we began to instill our trust in her, she took advantage. Because she taught we were too busy to figure things out, she would leave saying she was going to the designated outings ( zoo, library, mygym, and science center) and remain out all day. However, when I called the places my card had not been swiped in weeks/ months. Turns out that she was just going to her house or daughters house and spending the day. There were times we specifically asked her to stay in the house and focus on potty training and she would still leave and go to events she thought about. Which to be is direct defiance but more importantly, you are leaving my house without my permission with my child. I have also come home to find her daughter and children there without permission ( I will say her daughter and children are very sweet and innocent in the situation). The second issue we had with her was her tardiness. She was tardy every single day about 15 minutes. We spoke to her several times ( which she does NOT take correction well) and she admitted this has been a life long problem of hers. Her previous employers did warn us that she would be 5 minutes late everyday but I think they were just being nice and the truth is she will be 15-20 minutes later everyday. The only reason we kept her was because with any nanny, there will be something and we decided that her other qualities ( so we thought) outweighed her faults. Lastly, when we discussed/ confronted her with knowing she was not where she said she was she got extremely defensive and threatened to quit on the spot.... we took her up on her threat and she did not come the next day. So she is unprofessional and will not give you the required 2 weeks notice ( which in our case was okay because we had back up child care; but also did not want a dishonest individual watching our children). Hopefully no one else will go through a similar experience as we did. Busy professionals need reliable help, not additional stress.
