My nana was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was about 6 years old, it was really hard on me because I had no idea why my nana who was my best friend, was acting so different. Flash forward a few months we figured out the behavior and hallucinations were Alzheimer's disease, we knew from there that it was going to go down hill. By the age of 9 my nana was in diapers and I'd be left home to take care of her, help her use the bathroom and get changed. Watching her slowly go like that was so so hard, and seeing here wasn't always easy. When we visited her her face absolutely lit up and I just remember her being so happy to see me, even if she didn't always remember who I was it still made me happy just to spend time with her because I knew just talking to her would help even just a bit. I'd love to be able to do what I wish I could've for my nana during this time for them!
