I spent eight(8) years caring for my elderly aunt who was diagnosed with dementia and was partially blind. It was challenging but very rewarding to be able to help her with her daily care, to assist with her housekeeping and to be able to get a better understanding of how both the individual and the family is affected by this disease. It taught me patience and compassion, as well as a sense of purpose. We don't know how our story is going to end; but it's important to know that there are people who can help make the journey more bearable; and sometimes even enjoyable.
