While attending college at the University of Vermont as an Elementary Education major, I had the pleasure of taking a Children with Special Needs course. During one seminar, a bunch of families from Vermont Family Network came in and told us their stories. I was inspired and immediately drawn to working with these families. After this, I applied to be a Personal Care Attendant and spent the next two years caring for a 10-year-old boy with Down Syndrome, as well as his older sister and younger brother. In addition to this at-home setting, I have worked closely with students with special needs in school settings. This was the most meaningful work I have done, and I am hoping to continue on this path.
