About Lorne

Lorne worked with our family as a nanny for two years. We started our relationship with her as a partner in a nanny share with another family. After our second daughter was born and our share care family started preschool Lorne took over the care of our younger daughter as well. Lorne took care of both of our daughters until our older daughter was 2.5 and our younger daughter was 10 months. When Lorne started, our first daughter had reflux and was (and still is) very stubborn. It was almost impossible to get her to sleep. Lorne kindly and patiently worked with her through a lot of crying and nap resistance and was able to settle her into a regular nap schedule. Lorne's background in child development and passion for reading had a big influence on our girls. Our older daughter absolutely loves books and reading stories. She will even sit for long periods of time "reading" to herself. As a result, her language skills are much further along than her peers. Lorne's communication skills are great. She always kept me updated with what the girls were doing. She did some research to find the best app to track the kids activities, meals and naps during the day so that I could check in on their progress. She would also often stay late to discuss the things that happened during the day or ideas for ways to help with their development. As an artist, Lorne was always coming up with creative projects and things to make. From homemade toys and play dough to cookies and coloring, we always had a Lorne-inspired project in the house. Her love of creativity is so great that she generously bought our older daughter her own easel and very first paint set. During typical days Lorne would take the girls out twice a day to the library, rec center, playground or for walks. She helped my kids develop friendships with other children in the neighborhood and coordinated with other nannies to arrange play dates. She always made sure the girls had healthy snacks and well balanced meals throughout the day. She would also help with laundry, dishes, cleaning up around the house and taking care of our dog. I always appreciated that Lorne is very trustworthy and safety conscious. With two small children there are an endless number of hazards encountered throughout the day. Lorne made sure that the children's safety was always the first priority both inside and outside of the home. I was always confident that Lorne would take good care of my children in my absence. I would recommend Lorne for any childcare position.
