I lived with and alongside children and young adults with intellectual disabilities for the first 20 years of my life. In those 20 years we had 2-9 individuals living in an extended community living sort of situation (imbedded in a school) with the rest of my (biological) family and other live-in coworkers. It was certainly a unique way of growing up, but I wouldn't change a thing with the connections I made and the life lessons I learned. I now currently work full-time for that school managing the upkeep of the 80+ acre estate grounds. For the past 6 years while I was going to University and then while working my full-time job, I worked part time with adults with intellectual disabilities. Covid caused me to loose my part-time job. I am now looking to replace that and to continue to help those I care so much for.
