I left nursing approximately 15 years ago when the demands of parenting four children and caring for aging parents and family became too great. I understand what a difficult choices families often make. It was important to me that my parents and in-laws received the best quality care available to them in their own familiar surroundings. The satisfaction I received from caring for them in their later years was immeasurable. I returned to professional nursing in 2017 as a Home Health Nurse with a local agency and then retired this year (2020) as I wanted to return to the caregiver role which allows for more personal relationship. As a home health nurse, I continued to see families experiencing enormous stress in finding compassionate professional care for their loved ones. It should not be this way.
