About Lena

Hello! I am a diligent and enthusiastic tutor who will help your children excel in reading or writing. I've obtained my MFA in poetry, taking graduate level literature and pedagogy classes. I taught into to creative writing and intro to academic writing and inquiry to University of Michigan students. As a tutor, I try to active the students' intrinsic motivation by helping them find what interests them about their studies. My students have told me that studying with me has initiated a passion for learning by helping them connect to the material personally. I am also skilled at breaking down complicated concepts and making difficult ideas accessible to students. I help students to notice what confuses them and to pay attention to the questions the text incites in them as a gateway to learning. This insures that my students have the skills they need to be lifelong readers and writers long after they finish tutoring.
