About Laurie

Certified by the state of Texas to teach elementary, early childhood, and special education students, I have been a teacher and/or tutor for over 30 years. I was also the curriculum developer for a private school for three years. I especially love teaching reading to children who are dyslexic or who have struggled to learn to read for other reasons. I use an Orton-Gillingham method to teach my students, the only method backed up by research to make these students successful. I am trained in the Barton Reading & Spelling System, a research-based tutoring system for children, teenagers, or adults who struggle with spelling, reading, and writing due to dyslexia or a learning disability. It is an Orton-Gillingham-influenced, multi-sensory, sequential program that has produced amazing results for children with dyslexia or other learning challenges.
