I miss having dogs of my own terribly, but a dog can be a 15 year commitment so I want a more permanent home first. Working with dogs will enable me to spend time with them with a much shorter commitment. My only experience with very small dogs was my one pomeranian who passed away at 15. I have had many mid and large sized dogs, including Shepherds, Mastiffs, Chinook, PItbull/Bulldog mixes and mixed breeds. I have had dogs with aggression issues and one with very severe fear issues. Having had several rescues, I understand some of the processes dogs go through during their adjustment period, how tough it can be and how surprisingly long it can take. I volunteer at a local shelter one morning weekly, but I have only been with them a few weeks. I cannot board dogs at my apartment. I am willing to stay at the dogs' home during vacations.
