I worked for the state of Indiana providing daily care for adults with special needs. I've also worked with special needs children for over more than 30 yrs and I have 4 nephews and 3 nieces who are either autistic or special needs, 5 of which were adopted. I also have a son as you know from my "bio" that is special needs. My whole family have been involved with this type of care and influenced by my parents who were Foster Parents for special needs children. I've always told my own son that we all have special needs of some sort. Some need glasses, hearing aids, help with schoolwork or other help with the things they need in order to lead a normal life. By explaining it this way, it makes the playing field even in his eyes and isn't that true that we all have something(s) that we need help with?
