I currently work in District 204 in a multi-needs classroom and have gained hands-on experience working with children with a variety of special needs and behavior challenges. I have been fully trained in using Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices, visual aids, First/Then statements, and the ABA approach style of completing tasks. I am comfortable with various forms of sensory input methods to provide children with a calming mechanism. I also run District 204s annual Special Survivor Games pairing peer buddies with children with special needs to complete relay style races in a fun and engaging atmosphere and realize the pros and cons of too much or not enough stimulation. I provide a consistent and routine environment which aids with the transition from parents to caretaker.
