I have 12 years of experience being a care giver. This has involved dementia care, post surgery care, developmental disabilities, hospice and companion care. In order to help care for my dad, I received a caregiver certificate. This turned into more interest and I continued receiving a CNA, two years of prerequisites for nursing school and eventually some nursing school. It turned out I didnt need to be a nurse after all to care for others in a professional and loving way. My first job title was Direct Support Professional. It sounded vague because it meant I would be expected to do things for my clients "that werent in the job description ". This made me very flexible. Im an empty nestor and no grandchildren so I enjoy being busy. My lifestyle is of active wellness and fitness. Although, I do respect my clients right for ice cream. Communication is vital to me. The client gets the best care when family, caregivers and medical team all work together.
