I spent last summer working at an overnight camp for children with special needs, where I gained experience working with children from ages 6-18 with a wide range of diagnoses, abilities, and needs. At the camp, we were trained in behavior management techniques for working with children with special needs. Working on goal setting and achieving with our campers was an integral part of the camp experience. I have worked with children with the following diagnoses: autism spectrum disorders/Aspergers, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, reactive attachment disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, sensory disintegration disorder, and anxiety disorders among others

Kayla F. and I worked together at a residential summer camp for children with emotional and behavioral problems and developmental disabilities. Kayla demonstrated the ability to interact with children of all ages while working with younger children at the day camp and teenagers at the residential portion of camp. She was always professional and energetic, despite the difficulty of working at a residential camp. Kayla is known for her patience and understanding. She is great at fostering creativity and excitement while providing a responsible atmosphere for children.
