I have always been drawn to people with special needs going back as far as grade school. I have two nephews with autism,. One non verbal, and one has Asperger's. I worked as a home health aide children with severe physical and developmental disabilities. I took to one little boy I cared for approximately 3 years. He was 11 when I started working with him. He was total care, non verbal and needed TLC. I grew very close to him and his family. 20 years later, I still stay in touch with his family to check on him. He is now 40 and lives in a group home. He was non verbal but his eyes would tell a sweet story every time. I have seen first hand how challenging it can be. I also saw how rewarding it is to make a difference for these kids and making them feel special and loved. I most recently worked with a grade schooler who has PANS/PANDAS a neurological disorder.
