Experience: 4 yrs
I graduated from Ball State University in May 2021 with a major in English and a minor in Japanese. I volunteered with College Mentors for Kids for two years where I met with my little buddy afterschool and engaged them in various activities. I have experience working with children 0-11 years old. I am friendly, energetic, and love helping children grow and develop in a healthy environment. For the past three years, I have nannied two children. During that time, I would plan meals, maintain daily routines filled with various activities, reading, and outside time along with scheduled nap times. I would plan activities centered around the children's interests while also encouraging exploration into various topics, resulting in both children having advanced intellectual and communication skills. Now that their youngest is ready to start preschool, I am ready for the next adventure with a new family. I am passionate about child development and would love to be part of your village!

Kat is an absolute natural with young children! She is patient, calm, and kind. She studies from credible resources of how the child brain grows and great ways to learn. She never displays any aggression towards kids. Kat is as passionate as she is knowledgeable. One example of her character..comes from a normal day. Picture a 2 year old and a 4 year old. The youngest is coloring and the toddler wants to play a game. Kat is cleaning up after their lunch and doing dishes. The toddler talks to Kat and lets her know what she wants to do. Kat explains that the youngest child can play if they want to…but they don’t have to if they want to continue colouring. Toddler then asks Kat to play. Kat then says that she will absolutely play but after dishes are finished. The 4 year old does start to cry. Kat talks to the toddler..she validates the child’s feelings of frustration and asks if the child would like a comforting hug and they do so. I think this example is important. Kat is showing that you may not always get what you want in that moment..sometimes you have wait. It’s okay to feel sad or disappointed to not have what you want right away. It happens. I feel it’s important to teach that skill..instead of just stopping everything to just make a young child not cry. In the long run I do not believe that is beneficial to the children’s development to repress crying. Kids need to learn skills and how to regulate their feelings. Kat is showing a way to do that in every interaction. I could go on and on giving examples of how wonderful Kat is with children. Just know that I trust her completely with young kids. She even teaches me a thing or two.
