Hi there, my name is Kathia. I started working with geriatric population when I was 18 (i'm now 29) as a dietary aide and loved it so much I pursued a CNA certificate to work directly with the nursing home residents. I worked at a facility in Iowa City (Oaknoll Retirement) for 7 years. There, I learned how to care for elders with the highest level of knowledge, empathy, respect and dignity for them. I loved my job and it showed as I received the Johnson County- Going the Extra mile CNA of the Year award only after 2 years of working at Oaknoll. I have direct patient care experience in general nursing home, short stay unit (physical rehab), memory care unit, psych care unit and a medical surgery unit. Kathia is an amazing caretaker! She has been so helpful with my Mom, who has dementia and lung cancer. She helps my Mom with grocery shopping, cooking meals, providing companionship, and more. Kathia is compassionate and kind and also professional and experienced. She’s a great communicator and lets me know how her visits go with my Mom, which I really appreciate. She is an angel and we’re so grateful that she’s my Mom’s caretaker!
