My Mom always told me growing up that "You're never too old to have fun." This is also the same woman who had other helpful euphemisms for me like "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.", "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean," "Teamwork makes the dream work," and "Nothing is free". All of that advice, along with her knowledge of cooking and OCD cleaning methods made me insanely responsible from a very young age. As I got older and grew into my own person, complete with my own neurological disabilities (adhd and ocd), I realized how to regulate the 2 sides of me between knowing how to have fun, while also being safe and responsible. While I do not have biological children of my own, I have lived with many children of roommates and significant others, specifically with special needs, ranging in ages 3-13, including my 3 step-children (ages 10, 12, & 13). I am a responsible kid at heart, and I just understand how to be their caregiving friend.
