Since high school, I was selected as a caregiver for my school's special needs department. I spent at least one hour each day creating artistic activities for the students, accompanying field trips, or simply helping the students with their classwork. Now as a rising junior at the University of Kentucky, I have been involved with the program, a student initiative with the aim at developing interpersonal relationships between college students and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities in the surrounding area. I am happy to say that I have been recently appointed president of UK's Best Buddies chapter after a year of exceptional service and dedication to the chapter, and the community members we proudly serve.
