About Kari

I have been teaching for the past 8 years in public schools and have also provided child care in different capacities for the past 15 years. In my early twenties, I worked as a swim instructor, volunteered as a teacher's aide in a bilingual class, taught subjects in Spanish at a summer school in the Dominican Republic, student taught abroad in the Philippines, tutored ESL Korean foreign exchange students in college, assisted teachers in an ESL public middle school summer program, taught summer school in Chicago, and worked as ESL tutor in Spain. Recently, I worked as the English Language Development specialist for an elementary school in Gladstone for the past 7 years. This past year I have been teaching 2nd grade because I love teaching students how to grow in their reading, writing, and math skills! I have learned a lot from these various roles, and my compassion continues to grow for empowering youth in developing their identity and making meaningful contributions to our community.
